Exterior Paint Care Tips

Many homeowners believe that once they paint the outside of their house, they never have to worry about it again. And, we are here to let you know that opinion is completely false. Just like the inside of your home, you still have to care for and maintain the paint on the outside. That is why we came up with these exterior paint care tips.

Power Wash

The best way to clean the exterior of your home is by power washing. Power washing gets rid of all the dirt and debris that may be stuck on your home. Once all the gunk is gone, you can then thoroughly enjoy your home’s paint. If you notice that pressure washing is causing your paint to chip or crack, lower the setting or use a hose and a sponge instead. After power washing, you can also take note of any areas that need a touch-up.

Maintain Landscape

Did you know that overgrown bushes or trees that touch your home can damage the paint? Plus, if a bad storm blows through, you have higher chances of these plants damaging not only the paint but parts of your home as well. Plants close to your home also give off moisture. This moisture leads to mold, mildew and even pests. That is why the best thing you can do is maintain the landscaping around your home on a weekly basis.

Clean Gutters & Downspouts

Dirty gutters and downspouts encourage mold and mildew growth as well water damage to your exterior. The best way to avoid these two disturbances is by cleaning your gutters and downspouts. You want to make sure they are clean of all debris, water and branches. You should do a quick clean once every month or a couple of months.

Watch for Cracks & Peeling

One of the things you will look out for when maintaining your outside paint is cracks and peeling. These signs indicate that your paint is wearing out and that you need to apply a new coat.

Handle Mold & Mildew

Even though the outside of our homes is tough and can withstand many different things, mold and mildew can still latch on. Over time this mold and mildew can seep into your home and cause serious health issues. Avoid this by keeping the outside walls dry, trimming back landscaping and wash and clean the walls every few months.

Re-Touch Up Paint

Sometimes all you need to do to take care of your exterior’s paint is to re-touch specific areas. Look for areas that have chips, cracks or dullness and do a quick cover-up.

Never let your exterior paint falter. By following these easy tips, you can take care of your home’s paint. Need help painting, power washing or doing other tasks inside or outside your home?
