It’s remarkable. Wood floors can look so luxurious, so fragile and hard to care for, and yet nothing could be further from reality. In fact, a well-cared-for hardwood floor can withstand just about anything from kids, spills, pets, and winter snow or salt dragged in during our hard-core, Belleville-area winter.
Hardwood floors really are simple to care for, but it is important to use the right products when it’s time to clean them.
Every hardwood floor manufacturer will recommend the best products to use for their wood flooring. If your floor isn’t new, however, you probably don’t know who the manufacturer was. How do you pick the best cleaning product?
Rule #1: do NOT use vinyl or tile floor cleaners
It might seem obvious, but it’s crucial to note that no one should ever use vinyl or tile floor cleaners on hardwood floors. These products will actually damage your wood floors instead of clean them.
We test products, and you can, too
At Valor Home Services, we’ve tested wood floor cleaners to know how well they remove stains and gunk, and what kind of impact they leave on the wood flooring.
We’ll give you our product recommendation in a moment, but if you really want to take matters into your own hands, you can test products yourself.
Here’s how:
Block off a patch of your hardwood flooring where you can apply a couple of different products by hand. Does one remove surface gunk better than the other? Does one apply easier? Does one leave your floor shinier after it’s dried?
The Valor Home Services recommendation
The best overall hardwood floor cleaner we’ve used has been the Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner. There’s a special Bona product that homeowners with allergy sufferers at home can use, too: Bona Free & Simple Hardwood Floor Cleaner.
